The Parliamentary Education Committee stated that the termination of the free lecturers’ contract or non-renewal will not affect their salaries granted to them by the concerned authorities, linking the renewal of their contracts with the approval of the 2023 budget.
In the meantime, lecturers appealed for free, to renew their annual contracts to guarantee their rights, since most of them did not renew their contracts after they expired last December.
Committee member Zaytoun al-Dulaimi said in an interview with "Al-Sabah": The renewal of the lecturers' contracts for free is linked to the approval of the 2023 budget, noting that its expiration or non-renewal will not affect their legal right to receive their salaries granted to them by the concerned authorities.
And she attributed the connection of this to the 2023 budget, to the procedures for converting some of them to permanent owners according to their entitlement, in addition to the fact that others of them will be transferred to contracts in addition to converting the 2020 lecturers into contracts as well, noting that this requires approving the budget to proceed with contracting and confirmation, so it was not renewed. Their contracts until now have expired and are renewable for one year.
Al-Dulaimi stated that after transferring the eligible lecturers to permanent staff after approving the budget, other lecturers will be transferred to contracts according to their legal entitlement, who have not yet been appointed as a contract within their directorates.
In the same context, a group of lecturers appealed in conversations to "Al-Sabah", the concerned authorities and the directorates of education in Baghdad and the provinces, to renew their contracts to guarantee their legal rights to confirmation, calling on government agencies, to confirm them to permanent owners similar to contracts in state institutions, noting that their contracts ended with End of last year and haven't renewed them yet.
