Independent MP Kazem Al-Tuki explained the essence of the dispute over the election law and the controversy that occurred during the last parliament session on the law, as it is still on the table of the Legislative Council and has not been fully resolved due to the disagreement over some paragraphs.
Al-Touki said in a press interview seen by “Takadam” that “the objection occurred against the electoral divider of St. Lego, as it is a system that grants victory in the elections to the one with the highest votes within the electoral list, and the one with the highest votes in the province does not grant this victory, and therefore whoever is outside the electoral lists is He will not get the victory even if he had the highest number of votes in the province.”
He added, "The objection also occurred to the system of closed electoral lists, where the demands were to make them electoral lists, with an emphasis on the victory of those who get the highest votes within the province and not within the list, especially since some candidates will not be included in the electoral lists."
And he indicated that "the dispute occurred within Parliament over the Saint-Lego system and the difference of opinions about the percentage of the electoral denominator, as some deputies went towards 1.7 and others towards 1.9, and other percentages were not agreed upon."
