    On Friday, March 24, 2023, the President of the Republic, Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received at his residence in New York, the Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Mr. Wahid Kirchiji, representative of Turkey to the Water Conference, and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, and the Governor of Basra, Mr. Asaad Al-Eidani.
    At the outset of the meeting, the President of the Republic expressed his condolences and deep sorrow for the victims of the earthquake that struck several cities in Turkey, as he stressed in this regard that the earthquake was a painful tragedy for everyone, not just for Turkey, hoping that the Turkish people would quickly overcome its effects. His Excellency also entrusted the Minister with his greetings to the Turkish President. .
    The President of the Republic indicated that there are serious steps taken by Iraq to reach radical solutions to the issue of water, and that the government is continuing its work and awaiting the approval of the budget to complete the necessary projects in this regard, indicating that the concerned authorities have taken actual measures to improve water management and preservation methods to face water scarcity in Iraq.
    The President of the Republic added that all the sources of Iraq's rivers and tributaries are located outside the country, and this calls for more cooperation to reach formulas and understandings that guarantee fair and sufficient water shares for all parties, pointing to the importance of knowing Turkey's water plans to be able to develop the necessary plans in Iraq, noting in this regard the necessity Benefit from Turkish expertise in the field of water management and agriculture.
    The President of the Republic also touched on the dangers facing Iraq as a result of the decrease in the proportion of water flowing across the borders, desertification and drought, as well as the lack of rain and its negative repercussions on the overall life of Iraqis, especially the agricultural sector.
    In turn, the Turkish minister conveyed President Erdogan's greetings to President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid. Minister Kirchiji also valued Iraq's stance and support for Turkey and its people during the earthquake, indicating that the Turkish people appreciate the humanitarian position of Iraq and its people.
    The Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry affirmed that the bilateral relations will contribute to solving all problems in the water file between the two countries, pointing to the importance of the Prime Minister's visit to Turkey recently and his meeting with the Turkish President, in addition to his meeting with the Minister of Water Resources and the desire of the two sides to reach understandings regarding water shares.
    The Turkish minister referred to the expansion of agricultural research and development and the upgrading of water management plans, especially groundwater, expressing his country's readiness to transfer expertise in the field of water management and the use of modern agricultural methods to Iraq.
