Covering about 600,000 citizens with social protection in 2023

The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, expected that about 600,000 citizens would be covered by social protection during the current year, while he denied allegations of recruiting children into the Popular Mobilization Forces.
A statement by the ministry stated that "Al-Asadi met with the Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, Nada Al-Nashif, in Geneva, and during the meeting, they discussed the ministry's efforts regarding the child labor file and its role in reducing it, and its taking legal measures in coordination with the support agencies to hold accountable some employers who violate child labor instructions."
He added, "The meeting touched on the procedures of the Ministry of Labor to open a special directorate for Yazidi, Turkmen, Christian, and Shabak survivors to provide care for them and guarantee their rights by including the necessary financial allocations in the budget to pay monthly salaries, provide psychological and moral support, and take care of them."
The statement indicated that "Al-Asadi presented, in his response regarding the recruitment of children in the Popular Mobilization Authority, full evidence that denies these allegations, describing the authority as one of the official state institutions and with controls that prevent the recruitment of children among the ranks of the security forces."
Meanwhile, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs expected that about 600,000 people would be covered by social protection, within meals this year.
Al-Asadi told "INA": "We have put in the budget additional financial allocations, and Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a Al-Sudani supports social protection in particular," adding that "we expect, according to the 2023 budget, to include at least 600,000 meals during the current year."
He continued, "The 2023 budget of the Ministry of Labor may reach 6 trillion dinars, between allocations for social protection and people with disabilities."
