The Parliamentary Health and Environment Committee attributed the deterioration of the health situation to a number of reasons, foremost of which is the rampant corruption and courtesies that impeded the opening of these files in the ministry.
Member of the committee, Representative Basem Al-Gharabi, said in a press interview seen by Taqaddam, “One of the reasons for corruption in the Ministry of Health is the accumulation of many problems during previous years, including drug policy and treatment policy, in addition to the policy of the former Ministry of Health and the lack of financial allocations, in addition to courtesies within the ministry and even between The investigative authorities in the oversight bodies, and therefore very few files are opened and investigated.”
He added, "The General Company for Marketing Medicines and Medical Supplies had a lot of delay and bureaucracy, under the pretext of lack of financial allocations, and other obstacles in the matter of contracting with companies."
Al-Gharabi pointed out that "all these reasons cast a shadow over the citizen, who suffers from the deterioration of health services and the scarcity of medicine."
He pointed out that "there is progress in a few percentages in the policy of the Ministry of Health in providing treatment and medicine," adding that "the Parliamentary Health Committee seeks to prepare studies in cooperation with the competent authorities to raise these percentages."
Al-Gharabi affirmed that there are many files in the health sector, including corruption cases, that need follow-up by the House of Representatives and government committees.
