The Iraqi "Dry Canal" is a path of gold

Perhaps one of the most important conclusions reached by Iraq and Turkey during the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani to Ankara is the start of the implementation of the dry canal project, a project whose length is equal to gold, according to specialists, as it will bridge the distances between countries in the field of transport and energy in the first place.
Al-Sudani said in an article prior to his visit to Turkey: “The Al-Faw Grand Port project will include the dry canal corridor that will be formed by a highway and a railway that will pass through (Diwaniyah, Najaf, Karbala, Baghdad and Mosul) and extend to the Turkish border, which will allow access to the port of Mersin and Europe via Istanbul.” .
A member of the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee, Ali Saadoun Al-Lami, seemed optimistic about the dry canal, and confirmed in a previous statement, “The project to link Iraq with the Turkish side is one of the important projects that would stimulate trade and open new outlets for Iraq, and it has positive results for the country.”
The researchers, “Biljay Doman” and “Muhammad Alaga”, wrote in an article published by the “Arab Gulf States Institute” website, that “Iraq aspires to become a transportation center between Asia and Europe, through the construction of the large port of Faw in the city of Basra, in the south of the country, and the Corridor project. The dry channel, the widest in the region.
For his part, economic analyst Abdul Hassan al-Ziyadi described the dry canal project as equivalent to oil wealth.
Al-Ziyadi told Al-Sabah: “The dry canal should have been established decades ago because it connects east and west through Iraq.” .
He stressed that "the imports of the dry channel will be greater or parallel to the imports of oil in the event that the port of Faw is completed and linked to the dry channel, with no less than 100 billion dollars," noting that "it will shorten the time in transportation, in addition to stimulating tourism in Iraq."
On the other hand, a member of the Parliamentary Economy Committee, Kazem Al-Fayyad, seemed reticent about the mechanism for reaching the agreement with Turkey, as he told Al-Sabah: “Turkey will benefit more from Iraq from this project,” reminding that “Turkey is an economic beneficiary from trade exchange and it could have been Using this paper to obtain more gains.” He concluded by saying: “The dry canal will provide little benefit to Iraq,” expecting that “Iraq will benefit by 25% from the project.”
While observers expressed fears that the government would be subjected to political pressure or blackmail from neighboring countries on this issue, political analyst Jassim al-Moussawi stressed that the dry canal project is a political gain that will create a regional balance, denying the existence of political exploitation or political gains at the expense of the national interest.
Al-Musawi told Al-Sabah: “The dry canal is one of the global strategic projects in the Middle East, and its completion will achieve economic integration among the countries of the region.” He added, “Through this integration, security and stability will be achieved in Iraq,” stressing that it is “a political gain because it creates satisfaction.” And a regional and international balance regarding the dry channel that will bring together the Gulf, India and China via Turkey to Europe.
He continued, "There is certainly no political exploitation, and there is no attempt by anyone to obtain political gain at the expense of the national interest," and indicated that it is "an Iraqi and regional interest, and it is a means of cooperation and economic integration between the countries of the region."
