Today, Thursday, the Ministry of Construction and Housing confirmed the existence of intensive work to establish new cities in the capital, Baghdad, and the provinces in order to solve the housing crisis.
The ministry's spokesman, Nabil Al-Saffar, told "Baghdad Today" that "a national team has been formed, headed by the Minister of Reconstruction, Benkin Rikani, and the task of this team is to find alternative places for the purpose of establishing new cities outside the municipal borders, and this matter includes the capital, Baghdad, and some other provinces."
And Al-Saffar indicated that "preparations are currently being made by the recently formed Cities Authority to sort residential lands outside the municipalities, and work is currently on (15) new municipal units, to complete the requirements for sorting and expropriation."
He added, "Iraq is currently in need of (3) million housing units, and we will work during this year to complete the new cities project and you will see the light, and the prices of lands will be determined within the new cities, and some of them may be given for investment to build low-cost homes."
