Today, Tuesday, President Abdel Latif Rashid stressed, during his meeting with the Minister of Agriculture, Abbas Al-Alaywi, the need to encourage investment opportunities for the agricultural sector.
The media office of the President of the Republic stated in its statement that the latter “received at the Baghdad Palace, the Minister of Agriculture, Abbas Al-Alaywi, and during the meeting, they discussed the challenges facing Iraq in the issue of water scarcity and its direct effects on the agricultural sector, as the President of the Republic indicated the importance of working on Securing fair water quotas from upstream countries.
Rashid emphasized, “The importance of the agricultural sector as one of the basic resources for the national economy and providing food security.”
The President of the Republic referred to "the need to encourage investment opportunities in this vital sector to achieve sustainable development, and to use advanced technologies and modern irrigation methods to advance the agricultural situation and to confront the environmental effects of drought, desertification and climate change, which has become a global crisis."
The President of the Republic also touched on "Iraq's participation in the water conference organized by the United Nations in New York recently, and the outputs he called for in addressing the global water crisis, and the affirmation of the heads and leaders of the participating countries to support Iraq's efforts in this field."
For his part, the Minister of Agriculture expressed his "thanks and appreciation to the President of the Republic for his valuable directives," explaining "the ministry's plan for the current agricultural season, and its endeavor to confront the obstacles facing this vital sector."
