A statement by the ministry stated, “The Minister of Industry and Minerals, Khaled Battal Al-Najm, chaired an expanded meeting that included the chairman and members of the higher ministerial committee formed to study the restructuring of public companies, in the presence of the boards of directors of the General Company for Textile and Leather Industries, the General Company for Food Products, and members of the structuring committees formed in it.”
The statement indicated that this step came in implementation of the terms of the government program for structuring some companies, as the aforementioned two companies were chosen as one of the largest public companies affiliated with the ministry and constitute (25 percent) of the total number of the ministry's employees.
At the beginning of the meeting, Battal indicated that “the restructuring represents a review of the capabilities of these companies in all respects according to the current standards and requirements,” noting that “the ministry is serious about implementing this file and reaching decisive results in it and making it an experience and a first step that can be circulated to other companies.”
The statement pointed to “a number of observations about the measures taken by the Ministerial Committee and the committees formed in the two targeted companies, the most important of which is, first, reassuring the employees of the aforementioned companies not to prejudice their work and their career future, and holding special seminars to explain and clarify everything related to the issue of restructuring.
He continued that the second note included identifying real estate from the lands and buildings belonging to these companies in terms of whether they are allocated or purely owned in order to take appropriate decisions on how to dispose of them and benefit from them.
The third note called on the boards of directors of these companies to think in an economic way about how to benefit from their companies’ websites, as they are empowered to make decisions according to the current reality and in the interest of the companies.
And the statement continued, “The minister listened to the interventions and observations of the ministerial committee and the general managers of the textile and leather and food products companies about the measures that were taken and made some recommendations, the first of which is the need to take into account the geographical distribution in the distribution of employees, while the second recommendation included media appearances to clarify the ministry’s procedures and everything related to it.” On the subject of restructuring, and preparing accurate statistics for the status of the coefficient and documented economic accounts to make sound, well-studied scientific decisions.
