    Today, Friday, the General Railways Company announced new services that will be provided in the near future on public trains.
    The general manager of the company said, in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency, followed by "Al-Iqtisad News", that "the General Company for Railways is still classified among the losing companies, and the issue is not operational, but rather the exit of many railway lines due to wars and terrorism, indicating that" the railways are about 70 % of the company's assets and operating lines, including the northern lines: (Baghdad - Mosul), (Baghdad - Al-Qaim, Husaybah) and (Bayji - Kirkuk, the eastern line), all of which were destroyed due to wars, terrorism and military operations.
    And he continued: "Now we have begun to recover by connecting the rail network, and we will witness a qualitative shift in transport in terms of railways through the contracts of the SOMO Company for the transportation of oil derivatives and crude oil, and the contracts of the Petroleum Products Company and the Ministry of Commerce to transport ration materials and the private sector, and we will enter the containers in the port of Umm Qasr after Opening of the Grand Welcome Square. 
    He stressed that "the company is still suffering from encroachments on the railway lines by people and some of them are state institutions, which are irregular, in addition to encroaching on the train by throwing stones and encroaching on railway property, which is property that extends over hundreds of kilometers and cannot be fully protected," stressing " The need for everyone from the local government and security forces to cooperate in order to protect these lines, improve service and reduce the travel time from Baghdad to Basra and the rest of the provinces.
    And he indicated that "the company is serious about permanent improvement of services, and now the Baghdad-Basra trip has been shortened from 12 to 9 hours, and the services provided are better, and new services will be provided soon on public trains."
