The United States of America commented, on Monday, on the meeting that brought together the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani (the Kurdistan Democratic Party), and the Deputy Prime Minister, Qubad Talabani (the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan).
"I commend the leadership of the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Kurdistan, who are working together to begin resolving problems through dialogue," the US ambassador wrote, in a tweet.
"The whole country benefits when its leaders focus on the needs of the people," Romanowski added. "Let's make this momentum a way to take a significant step forward."
In the context, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Qubad Talabani, confirmed his agreement with the Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani, that it is possible to overcome the challenges facing the region.
Talabani wrote, in a tweet that he posted on his account on the social networking site “Twitter”, that “an enjoyable and fruitful lunch meeting was held today with Prime Minister Masrour Barzani,” stressing that the two parties agree in believing that there is a possibility to overcome challenges together, and work on better services for citizens. And to remain strong in the face of the many threats facing the Kurdistan Region.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, received Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, the first of its kind after months of political differences, which prompted the ministerial staff of the Patriotic Union, to which Talabani belongs, to suspend his attendance at the meetings of the Council of Ministers of the region.
A statement from Barzani's office stated that the meeting took place in a positive atmosphere, and the financial and administrative problems facing the Kurdistan Regional Government were discussed, and it was agreed to solve all problems through dialogue and cooperation between all ministerial blocs within the government formation.
The meeting also witnessed, according to the statement, highlighting the latest developments in the political situation in the region and the region, with an emphasis on protecting solidarity, synergy and internal unity, in order to preserve the national interests and constitutional rights of the citizens of the Kurdistan Region.
The National Union accuses the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government of monopolizing the security and oil files, limiting all powers to his hands, and depriving Sulaymaniyah Governorate (the center of gravity of the National Union) of service projects and the financial budget.
In light of this reality, the deputy prime minister of the regional government, Qubad Talabani, the brother of Pavel Talabani, who is at the forefront of the political confrontation with the ruling party in the region, boycotted the meetings of the Council of Ministers in Kurdistan for months, as the government team of the “National Union”, consisting of 5 ministers out of 18, decided to In the regional government, not to participate in the official meetings and ceremonies of the regional government.
On the other hand, the head of the regional government denies this, and accuses the ruling National Union in Sulaymaniyah of not handing over the revenues of the border crossings or the internal revenues to the Ministry of Finance in the regional government, which is supposed to be in charge of distributing expenditures to the provinces.
The differences culminated in the aftermath of the assassination of security officer Hawkar al-Jaf in Erbil last October, as the Democratic Party presented evidence and accused security leaders in the National Union of being involved in the case, but the Union denied any involvement in the case.
