    The President of the Republic, Dr. Abd al-Latif Jamal Rashid, announced the recovery of (6000) thousand artifacts that were loaned to the United Kingdom in 1923 for a period of (100) years for the purposes of study and research.
    The President of the Republic confirmed, during a press conference held today, Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Baghdad International Airport, upon his return to the country from the United Kingdom after the conclusion of an official visit to attend the coronation ceremony of King Charles III, that he brought with him (6000) artifacts dating back to different stages of the history of civilizations. Iraq.
    The President of the Republic added that the return of these artifacts from the United Kingdom is the second largest process of recovering antiquities in the history of Iraq, indicating that this process embodies the keenness to protect the cultural heritage that represents the national identity, the historical and cultural memory of the country and its great human significance.
    During the conference, which was attended by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Omar Al-Barzanji, the Director of the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage, Dr. Laith Majeed, and the Deputy British Ambassador to Iraq, Serena Stone, the President of the Republic expressed his support for the efforts to recover the artifacts until the last one is recovered. A piece of our national wealth to the Iraqi Museum in a way that preserves the nobility of this glorious history, appreciating the efforts that have been made, and praising the cooperation of the British Museum in retrieving the loaned Iraqi antiquities.
    The following is the text of the President’s speech at the press conference:
    “In the Name of God, the Most Gracious,
    the Most Merciful
    As we conclude our visit to the United Kingdom, and in connection with the efforts made by the Presidency of the Republic, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, and the Iraqi Embassy in London, this blessed day witnessed the return of nearly (6) thousand artifacts from the United Kingdom to Iraq, where these pieces were present In Britain since the year (1923) on loan for a period of (100) years for the purposes of scientific research, study and translation, which were returned in cooperation with the British Museum.
    The return of these artifacts from the United Kingdom is the second largest process of recovering antiquities in the history of Iraq. This process also embodies the concern to protect the cultural heritage that represents the national identity, the historical and cultural memory of the country and its great human significance.
    We affirm our support and continuous follow-up to efforts to recover artifacts that were looted, stolen and smuggled outside the country, until the last piece of our national wealth is restored to the Iraqi Museum, in a way that preserves the nobility of this glorious history of Iraq and its civilization, which is considered one of the oldest human civilizations on Earth.
    On this occasion, we express our thanks and appreciation to the United Kingdom for fulfilling its commitments 100 years ago to return artifacts and its commitment to preserving them throughout these years, and we value the constructive cooperation in this regard, especially from the British Museum.
    We hope that the Iraqi artifacts that were loaned to the British side have benefited all of humanity and through which scholars have reached fruitful and scientific results that serve the history of mankind through their valuable research and studies. We also commend the national efforts made by the Presidency of the Republic, the Ministries of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Iraqi Embassy in London for the purpose of completing the recovery of these important artifacts. I also thank the presence of the British Embassy in this conference.
