[size=45]President Barzani to (BBC): There is no force in the world that can change the true identity of Kirkuk
    March 21, 2023 …. Private interviews
<President Massoud Barzani stressed the identity of Kirkuk, stressing that what is happening "is a temporary matter, and no power in the world can change its true identity." President Barzani pointed out that they will not regret the position they have shown against attempts to break the will of the Kurdistan people. In an interview with the BBC, President Barzani referred to the reasons for the escalation of sectarian conflict after the fall of the Iraqi regime in 2003. He said: "Instead of seizing the opportunity to build a united federal Iraq, the Iraqi parties sought revenge." He added: "Instead of national reconciliation, state building and benefit From a new opportunity to build a new, federal and democratic Iraq, the Iraqi parties resorted to revenge and purification of identity, in fact the situation was very tragic.” In response to a question about the Kurdish decision to remain with the new power system in Iraq, President Barzani said: “We have never supported this policy, which The Shiite parties followed it in ruling Iraq.” He added: "We never supported the policy pursued by the Shiite and even Sunni parties after that period, and the responsibility for that period rests with both parties." He explained: "That is, both sides carried out ethnic cleansing, but because the power was in the hands of the Shiites, they bear a great responsibility." President Barzani continued, "Certainly, acts of revenge, marginalization, and all similar measures have created a very favorable environment for terrorists and al-Qaeda to infiltrate Iraq and settle in Sunni areas." In another part of the interview, President Barzani told the BBC about his decision to hold a referendum in 2017, highlighting the reasons for the resistance of the Peshmerga forces in the events of October 16. He stressed that if there is any deception, "this is temporary and there is no force in the world that can change the identity of Kirkuk." Barzani said, "The issue has become a struggle of wills. All sides wanted to break our will. This was the main reason for our resistance." It is true that many attempts were made against us, but we resisted and succeeded.” He continued, “We stopped the attack on us in October 2017, and Kirkuk would not have collapsed had it not been for the betrayal of a certain party. But this is temporary because there is no force in the world that can change the true identity of Kirkuk.” President Massoud Barzani stressed at the end of the interview that every people on this land has the right to decide their own destiny and at least express their opinions. “They didn't even justify that to us,” he said. And there was intense hatred against us. That hatred spread more and turned into breaking the will of the Kurdish people, so we showed a stance that we will not regret for the rest of our lives.” img src="[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] " alt="" /> President Massoud Barzani stressed at the end of the interview that every people on this land has the right to decide their own destiny and to at least express their opinions. He said, "They did not even justify it to us, and there was intense hatred against us.
