, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Shakhwan Abdullah, called on the Finance Committee to correct the number of its members to (23) instead of the current (24) and to suspend its work until the committee is restructured with the prescribed number.
Abdullah’s office stated, according to a document that Mawazine News obtained, that “in order to adhere to the proper legal procedures regarding the work of parliamentary committees within the parliament, the Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Shakhwan Abdullah Ahmed, requested an official letter issued by his Excellency today, Saturday 5/27/2023, to the committee.” Parliamentary Finance Correcting the number of its members to (23) instead of the current (24) based on the provisions of Article (73) of the House of Representatives bylaw, which specified the number of committee members not to exceed (21) and authorizing the presidency of the Council to make amendments and adding only two members to each of the committees Parliament, whether transferring or maintaining balance, and since the current number is (24) and this is a clear violation of the provisions of the internal system, so the Vice President called on the Finance Committee to suspend its work until the imbalance is addressed, the course is corrected, and the number of committee members is restructured with the prescribed number (23).
The deputy speaker of the parliament pointed out, "The need to adhere to the laws and provisions of the constitution and the internal system, and the parliament is the official body to legislate laws, and the law and the internal system must be applied away from political courtesies and not to violate the legal procedures stipulated in the internal system of the parliament."
