The Ministry of Planning announced, yesterday, Monday, that the production of four food crops increased, while the production of six other crops decreased during the year 2022. The ministry said in a statement
that the Central Statistical Organization issued its annual report on the production rates of secondary crops and vegetables in Iraq for the year 2022 and there were Four crops have increased their production. And he indicated that the crops whose production increased were beans, which amounted to 41 thousand tons, an increase of 21% compared to the previous year, which amounted to 33.4 thousand tons.
The production of watercress also increased, reaching 440 thousand tons, up by 16.4% from the previous year, which amounted to 378 thousand tons.
Likewise, the production of the cucumber crop increased to 196 thousand tons, by 5.6%, compared to the previous year, which amounted to 185.5 thousand tons. Its production decreased, including the watermelon crop, whose production amounted to 181 thousand tons, a decrease of 12% compared to the production of the previous year, which amounted to 205 thousand tons. The production of the okra crop also decreased, reaching 89 thousand tons, with a rate of 5% compared to the production of the previous year, which amounted to 93 thousand tons. Meanwhile, the production of eggplant, which amounted to 183,000 tons, decreased by 15% from the production of the previous year, which amounted to 216,000 tons.
The tomato crop production also decreased, reaching 630 thousand tons, at a rate of 15.3% compared to the previous year’s production of 744 thousand tons, while the production of green onions decreased to 47 thousand tons, at a rate of 22.2% compared to the previous year’s production of 60.4%.
The lettuce crop production also decreased, reaching 36 thousand tons, by 4% compared to last year's production, which amounted to 38 thousand tons.
