    {Local: Al Furat News} Today, Tuesday, the General Electric Company separated its work completed in Iraq during the first half of this year, noting the completion of the rehabilitation of gas turbines with a total capacity of 1400 MW, while the Ministry of Electricity confirmed the mobilization of its cadres to complete maintenance and modernization work in a number of stations. Targeted within the ministry's plan for summer 2023.
    The company said in a statement, “Within the framework of preparations for the summer season and the increasing demand for electricity, and within the framework of the Ministry of Electricity’s plan to conduct periodic maintenance of electric power generation units in the country, we announce the completion of a set of maintenance and rehabilitation projects for gas turbines with a total capacity of 1400 megawatts in a number of power stations.” Power generation in all governorates of Iraq in coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity.
    She added, "It completed works on several projects during the first half of 2023, which included maintenance on the second unit at the Shatt al-Basra gas station, and restoring the unit to work with a capacity of 100 megawatts, as work continued for several weeks in close cooperation between the cadres of the Ministry of Electricity and General Electric," noting that " The work included a thorough examination of the various parts of the turbine, the replacement of the rotor shaft and the damaged parts, and the reassembly of the unit's parts, its operation and its successful connection to the national network.
    And she stated that "comprehensive maintenance work has been completed at the Khor Al-Zubayr station, which included the rehabilitation of two gas turbines, the replacement of the exhaust group, and the return of the two units to service with a capacity of 200 megawatts. Maintenance operations for six gas turbines with a total capacity of 600 megawatts, in cooperation with General Electric, which provided the necessary spare parts in addition to technical and engineering support to complete the maintenance successfully.
    And the statement continued, "General Electric Company, in coordination and cooperation with the station's cadres, carried out maintenance work on the seventh unit, which included major periodic maintenance works, alignment of the turbine axis and capsule, to return 100 (megawatts) of energy to the national grid, and to complete all tasks before the advent of summer," noting that "the launch of A project to maintain and develop gas turbines at the Al-Quds plant in December 2022. The project includes the modernization and maintenance of two gas turbines with a capacity of 200 megawatts, in order to ensure and continue their productivity at the highest efficiency.
    He stated, "In northern Iraq, the first phase of the project to modernize the gas turbines at the Nineveh gas station has been completed, as two units have been modernized with the advanced hot track system (AGP), and major maintenance works have been completed and 200 megawatts returned to the network."
    A spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Musa, said: “The maintenance teams and technical teams affiliated with the ministry have been working since the beginning of this year and around the clock to ensure the implementation of these necessary maintenance and on time to ensure the readiness of these units in the face of the increase in demand witnessed during the summer period,” stressing that “ The ministry's strategy focuses on a set of priorities, including periodic maintenance of operating units to ensure the sustainability and stability of their productivity, especially during peak times."
    In turn, Fadi Tabboush, Executive Director of Energy Services in Iraq at General Electric, said: “We are continuing to work closely with the Ministry of Electricity teams to maintain and develop the production units currently in Iraq, in order to ensure the highest levels of productivity in all seasons, especially the summer season, when the rates of electric energy consumption reach to the peak."
    He explained that "General Electric's maintenance teams are composed of up to 90% of Iraqi cadres and competencies and work in accordance with the strategic priorities and objectives of the Ministry of Electricity. These teams have carried out many maintenance, rehabilitation and development works in the past years and in various parts of Iraq. In addition, these teams Currently, under the supervision of the Ministry of Electricity cadres, a group of additional maintenance and development projects is being studied, which will contribute to supplying the electrical system with additional energy that will increase and improve the level of production.
    He added that "General Electric is focusing heavily on contributing to the training and development of Iraqi cadres and the cadres of the Ministry of Electricity in several technical and technical fields, in addition to focusing on public safety issues in the workplace, as it has held over the past years a series of workshops and training programs attended by more than 150 of The cadres and cadres of the Ministry of Electricity. 
    Since 2011, the company has implemented strategic projects that have added 19,000 megawatts of electric power to the grid all over Iraq, including the regions of the Kurdistan region. It is worth noting that the General Electric Company had prepared a comprehensive study for the transformation of the energy sector in Iraq in 2021, and the study included solutions and recommendations that include accurate and long-term scheduling of maintenance work for the advanced gas turbines operating in Iraq, which number 240 generating units distributed throughout the country. Including the governorates of the Kurdistan region.
    The study also contained proposals for developing the currently operating units, including converting them to a combined cycle system, which enables the production of more electricity using the same amount of fuel, which increases production efficiency and contributes to reducing carbon emissions.
    Last February, the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity signed a document of principles for cooperation with General Electric under the auspices of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani. Existing, maintaining and rehabilitating the infrastructure for power generation and transmission to ensure stable supply, strengthening interconnection between the Jordanian and Iraqi networks, and contributing to reducing carbon emissions from the energy sector in the country, in addition to joint work to enhance capabilities and develop local competencies through the establishment of a center of excellence with a monitoring unit. And a diagnosis of the obstetric units of the Ministry.
