The media advisor to the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Saad Al-Hamwandi, confirmed today, Wednesday, that the regional government does not apply to the description of a caretaker government, because the legal term of the government has not expired yet.
Al-Hamwandi said in a press interview, which was seen by Taqaddam, that “the legal term of the regional government has not expired, and therefore the description of a caretaker government does not apply to it.”
He added, "The Democratic Party has always supported the holding of elections and on their scheduled date," adding that "what matters to us is that the electoral process takes place while we are confident of our popular and political credit."
The Federal Supreme Court ruled that it is unconstitutional to extend the work of the Kurdistan Parliament for an additional year, and considered that all decisions issued by it since last October, the date of extending this session, are “invalid.”
The court said that the decision was taken by “majority,” and that “the term of the fifth session of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament has ended with the end of the legal period specified for it.”
The Kurdistan Parliament had postponed the elections that were scheduled for last October due to political disputes over the division of electoral districts between the two major parties, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.
And with the complexity of the political scene between the governments of the center and the region, especially in the recent period accompanying the tensions of approving the budget, observers believe that the political differences between the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union regarding the upcoming elections have complicated the scene more and more, which could lead the Kurdistan government into a dark tunnel, and end its powers as Exceeded the legal duration of its work.
