Today, Tuesday, the President of the Republic, Abd al-Latif Rashid, stressed the need to adhere to the timelines for holding the provincial elections.
The Presidency of the Republic said in a statement received by (Baghdad Today) that "the President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received today, Tuesday, at the Baghdad Palace, the delegation of the Independent High Commission for Elections, headed by the Chairman of the Council of Commissioners, Judge Omar Ahmed Muhammad."
The president stressed, according to the statement, "the necessity of adhering to the timelines for holding the provincial elections, setting up the necessary mechanisms to enforce the provisions of the law, and not delaying announcing the results."
Rashid also listened to "talk about the mechanisms set up by the commission to conduct the elections and the stages it took to accomplish this task," stressing "the importance of overcoming the obstacles facing the commission."
For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners affirmed that "the commission is fully prepared to hold the elections on time and in all parts of Iraq except for the provinces of the region for technical reasons," noting that "the region expressed its desire to hold the elections at one time, but technical reasons prevented that."
