Today, Friday, the Independent High Electoral Commission revealed new statistics on the number of voters, parties, alliances, and registration centers participating in the provincial elections, and while clarifying the registration mechanism for the displaced and Sinjar voters, it confirmed that a technical meeting will be held soon to discuss the possibility of involving the governorates of the Kurdistan region in the local elections.
"The number of voters has risen to more than 95,000, and the number of registered parties has reached 281, including 11 parties with conditional leave, which means waiting for an answer from the Accountability and Justice Authority regarding them," said the Director of Procedures and Training at the Commission, Dawood Salman Khudair, in a press interview.
Khudair added, "The number of alliances has reached 41, in addition to the increase in the number of emerging parties to 14 parties," noting that "there will be more than 1,800 mobile teams, in addition to 1,079 registration centers spread throughout Iraq."
He pointed out, "Awareness campaigns within ministries and institutions are continuing in cooperation between the operations and mass communications departments, where an educational team has been formed in this regard."
He explained, "The issue of registering the displaced is inside the camps only, except for the voters of Şengal, who are entitled to register inside and outside the camps throughout Iraq, and to secure voting stations."
Regarding the Kurdistan Region elections, Khudair said, "A regional decree was received by the Commission regarding its inclusion in the Commission's agenda and determining the possibility of holding elections or not," stressing that "a meeting will be held with the technical committees and the Commission Council, which will decide whether to accept or reject the elections there."
