    Economy News _ Baghdad
Today, Wednesday, the Ministry of Planning confirmed that the annual population conference was devoted this year to highlighting the impact of climate changes on the population of Iraq, while referring to government efforts in this regard, and the Council of Ministers singled out a full approach to climate changes in the national document for population policies.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning Muhammad Tamim said, during the annual conference on the occasion of World Population Day, followed by "Al-Iqtisad News", that "the Ministry of Planning held the conference in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund and the Iraqi Association for Statistical Sciences on the occasion of World Population Day, which is celebrated by the international community in an attempt to shed light on population issues and address the problems and challenges surrounding such issues that are directly related to human life. "
He explained, "The conference was devoted this year to highlighting the impact of climate change on the Iraqi reality, so the slogan of the conference was population and the environment," noting that "Iraq is facing serious environmental impacts today that require all efforts and capabilities to confront these effects and curb their frightening repercussions on society."
He added, "The conference aims to draw attention and at the same time referred to the governmental efforts and the Ministry of Planning in developing and adopting many policies and procedures that would protect the population from those changes that were not limited to Iraq, but the whole world is now facing it."
And he added, "The ministry has paid great attention to population issues in accordance with what was included in the government program and what was done by the Supreme Population Council headed by Prime Minister Mohamed Shia'a Al-Sudani, who approved the national document for population policy, which charts paths for a state's policy with all its institutions.
And he added, "The ministry launched last week the activities of the economic and social survey of families in Iraq, which is of great importance to supplement the government program, development plans, and anti-poverty strategy with many important indicators.
He pointed out, "Despite the existence of many challenges, Iraq has not violated its international obligations and strives to fulfill its obligations by being keen to participate in regional meetings and councils concerned with population in the League of Arab States, activating the work of the National Committee for Population Policy and re-forming it, participating in high-level political forums for sustainable development, focusing on issues of vulnerable groups and the repercussions of crises on them, preparing a plan to return the displaced to their areas, and focusing on youth issues and women's empowerment."
He appreciated the efforts exerted in organizing this conference, especially the main partners, namely the United Nations Population Fund and the Iraqi Association for Statistical Sciences, as well as the efforts of the staff of the Central Statistical Organization and the Department of Human Development in the Ministry of Planning.
