Domestic violence is a widespread phenomenon in the country

The competent authorities are recording an increase in the number of cases of domestic violence, reaching the level of committing the crime of murder, while the competent authorities are trying to address this phenomenon by taking a number of firm measures.
According to the Director of the Community Police, Brigadier General Ghaleb Al-Attiyah, the cases of domestic violence increase exponentially with the rise in temperatures, indicating the mechanisms to address this widespread phenomenon.
Al-Attiyah told "Al-Sabah": "The community police have an important role in reducing the increasing cases of domestic and societal violence." Women for children, including the stepmother.
He continued, "This case needs to be studied and measures taken to raise awareness among married couples and young people about to get married." Violence comes to schools through teachers, and we educate citizens to reduce this phenomenon by meeting with parents and attending ministries and civil society institutions.”
For her part, human rights activist Sarah Jassim confirmed that there are several solutions to the phenomenon of domestic violence, including legislation and awareness.
Jassim told "Al-Sabah": "Solutions to domestic violence have many requirements, including legislative and educational ones, and they begin by calling on Iraqi families with all their members to have mercy on each other and the importance of affection and mercy that was instilled in them through religion." She added, "We need to provide care and rehabilitation homes for those who have suffered from domestic violence, and try to compensate the victims for what they experienced and what they missed in their family environment, and legislate a deterrent law for those who practice domestic violence." The mother, guardianship must be removed from the father and mother who do not perform their duties appropriately for the children, and it should be given to the competent and the first among the child’s relatives,” calling for “treating family members with mental illnesses and forcing them to follow instructions and presenting them to specialists.”
Jassim also called for "changing the prevailing perception towards violence against children, which considers it normal, especially the acceptance of physical violence, through the development of intensive programs by the government imposed on those who are about to get married and teachers to educate them about this matter," and pointed out the need to "teach them the correct foundations." For education and non-harmful forms of discipline, we must also strive to educate the community through the media and from religious platforms about the value and importance of women in society and not to underestimate them, and that it is not permissible for unfair acts of violence to be practiced on them as a human being who has the same rights as men, and she has the same duties as men. She warned of the need to "state the view of women by religions, their respect and appreciation for them."
