On page 25 of the sixth volume of the book (Barzani and the Kurdish Liberation Movement), which was announced for publication today, Barzani touched on Turkish efforts to obstruct the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

The book dealt with the events between 2003 and 2016 and touched in part on the February 2003 conference that Zalmay Khalilzad was planning to attend in Erbil.

Barzani wrote: “In a phone conversation, Khalilzad told me: Turkey is causing us a lot of problems to facilitate the American army. They asked for 40 billion dollars for this purpose. We also told them that they should decide for themselves because the United States will carry out its programs without Turkey and we warned them not to enter the region.” Kurdistan".

He added, "The meeting was scheduled for the opposition on February 25, 2003. Most of the delegations started coming to participate in the meetings. Turkey always seemed to cause problems for Khalilzad's arrival, and even once a Turkish F16 turned back an American C130 that was carrying it." Khalilzad and the American delegation to Erbil, although they had previously allowed him to come. However, Khalilzad arrived in Kurdistan on February 25, 2003."

He pointed out that, "On February 24, a team of US Special Forces arrived in Turkey to take the necessary measures and facilitate the entry of US forces into Turkey, but the Turkish parliament refused to allow the entry of US forces into Turkish territory. US forces have been waiting to disembark on ships near Turkey since days. Then it was shipped to Canada and entered Iraq via Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.”
