Baghdad / Obelisk Al-Hadath: The Parliamentary Legal Committee hosted the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the advanced staff in the ministry to clarify the issue of border demarcation with Kuwait, the issue of Umm Qasr, the granting of lands to Kuwait, and others that were raised a few days ago.
Committee member Muhammad Jassim Al-Khafaji stated in a statement received by Al-Masalla, that part of the Iraqi lands went to Kuwait according to Security Council Resolution 833 in 1993, which is unfair and unjust because of the former regime's president, Saddam, who rejected the decision, but approved it a year later.
He added that, as a result, there were more than 200 houses on the separating borders belonging to the employees of the Umm Qasr port, half of which went to Kuwait and were demolished.
And he continued: A memorandum of understanding was agreed between Iraq and Kuwait in 2013 to move the remaining floors (approximately 100 houses) to a distance farther from the border line separating the two countries at Kuwait’s expense, and it was occupied recently, indicating that there is no new neglect of the country’s lands and everything that happened as a result of the decision The falsehood above, and there is a committee formed to indicate the possibility of appealing the decision, which is almost impossible.
And he went on to say that the decision also deprived Iraq of large marine areas from Khawr Abd Allah, which is the only waterway for Iraq to reach the port of Umm Qasr.
And you ask: Did Kuwait take advantage of the abnormal circumstances of Iraq and the weakness of the Iraqi negotiator? The answer is yes, with the help of the Security Council and the international community.
He concluded his speech by saying, currently there are still negotiations, but they are ineffective
