He pointed out that there are proposals submitted by some parliamentary committees related to amending the retirement age, but the approval of the budget law for three years currently prevents a return to such a law, indicating that the exceptions depend on the government that assesses the extent of its need and submits its proposals to Parliament, pointing out that the employee at the age of 60 has Experience and competence are required in most specializations, and it must be invested in the government sector and not left to the private sector only, according to the official newspaper.

Retirement refers to the legal age at which a person permanently stops working or withdraws from it. In Iraq, retirement is regulated by Law No. 9 of 2014 regarding the Unified Retirement Law, which stipulates the rights and obligations of Iraqi citizens with regard to retirement, noting that the legal age for retirement is in Iraq is 60 years old.
The law applies to all employees of state departments, the public sector, temporary employees, those assigned to a public service, state employees in the mixed sector who were appointed before April 9, 2003, and retirees in cases of retirement due to age, illness or disability, old age, or death.
An employee is entitled to retire in one of the following cases:
First: Upon reaching the age of 60, which is the legal age for retirement, regardless of the length of his service (unless the law stipulates otherwise). The employee may continue to work after reaching the legal retirement age, but he may not work after the age of 65.
Second: If the competent medical committee decides that he is not fit to continue serving.
