The Ministry of Communications intends to divide the regions of Iraq between 5 companies to operate Internet services there.
A member of the Parliamentary Transportation and Communications Committee, Karwan Ali Yarouis, told Al-Sabah: The reform steps that took place in the ministry since the minister took over until now have been followed up, the most important of which are corporate contracts and the improvement of Internet services during the last meeting that brought together some members of the committee with the Minister of Communications, Hayam Al-Yasiri, indicating That the ministry has a project to divide the regions of Iraq between five companies to provide Internet services, especially with the expiration of contracts of previous companies in the next month.
Yarois added that the plan will create intense competition between companies to provide the best to subscribers at the most appropriate prices, pointing to holding the negligent company responsible for delay in any area without evading responsibility for poor services.
He pointed out that previous contracts for the Internet were characterized by "monopoly" and were marred by a legal and technical defect, and were always in favor of companies at the expense of the state and the citizen, and such a matter cannot create competition between companies, which led to Internet services in Iraq being among the worst in the world. the world.
Yarouis pointed out that the ministry continues to deal with Internet capacity smuggling operations that are still ongoing, adding that these operations need modern and sophisticated devices to detect them, in light of the ministry’s need for technical capabilities and financial allocations to eliminate them completely, explaining that the communications sector in Iraq is important and vital, but to Now there is no law to regulate it.
