Sabah Sobhi: Iraq and Turkey are not yet satisfied with the conditions for resuming the export of the region's oil

A member of the Iraqi Parliament, Sabah Sobhi, confirmed today, Sunday, that Iraq and Turkey are not yet satisfied with each other's conditions regarding the resumption of exporting Kurdistan Region's oil.
Regarding the visit of a Turkish delegation to Baghdad and its meeting with senior officials in Iraq regarding the conditions for resuming the export of Kurdistan Region’s oil via Turkey, Sabah Sobhi said, “According to the decision of the International Court in Paris, Turkey must pay Iraq huge compensation ranging from 4 to 5 billion dollars.” This will lead to an increase in the burdens on the Turkish economy at the present time.
He pointed out that "Turkey has other demands to resume the export of Kurdistan Region's oil," pointing out that "it would like to benefit from exporting the region's oil and Kirkuk together."
He stressed that "Turkey has pressure cards, the first of which is water, and intends to use them in exchange for Iraq's papers and conditions," noting that "the Kurdistan Workers' Party and trade exchange are two other cards that Turkey intends to use well, which will cause severe damage to Iraq."
He continued, "Until now, Iraq is not ready to cooperate with Turkey regarding the PKK file, especially since Iraq has agreements with the latter through the popular crowd," explaining that "Iraq, since the eighties of the last century, has been using the PKK as a card to continue negotiations with Turkey."
According to Sabah, “the main affected by the non-export of the Kurdistan Region’s oil is Iraq first, the region second, and then Turkey third,” stressing that “the solution lies in a major country pressuring Iraq to make some concessions” in this file, pointing out that “ There is no solution on the horizon to resume exporting the region's oil.”
On Tuesday, August 22, 2023, Turkish Defense Minister Hakan Fidan visited the federal capital, Baghdad, as part of an official visit, where he met with his counterpart Fuad Hussein, Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, President Abdul Latif Rashid, Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi, and a number of leaders and parties. political
After that, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan arrived at the head of a delegation to the Kurdistan Region from Baghdad, late on the night of August 23, 2023, and met with President Barzani, the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, and the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani.
The most prominent files that the Turkish minister discussed with senior officials in Baghdad and Erbil were the water crisis file, the Kurdistan Region's oil and energy resumption file, and the security and terrorism file.
