Yesterday, members of the Parliamentary Finance Committee revealed the details of hosting the governor of the Central Bank, while pointing out the problem in the housing initiative for real estate loans of the Real Estate Bank and the Housing Fund.
Representative Hussein Munis said in a press statement: "The Parliamentary Finance Committee hosted the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, Ali Al-Alaq, regarding the housing initiative."
He added, "The meeting discussed the mechanism of increasing the number of beneficiaries, increasing the payment period and reducing interest," noting that "the Central Bank of Iraq faced several problems in this issue."
Moanes pointed out that "the Central Bank has exceeded the amount allocated for the initiative, represented by five trillion dinars for the Real Estate Bank, the Housing Fund, and the Agricultural and Industrial Banks."
He pointed out that "the housing initiative exceeded 10 trillion dinars, according to what the governor of the Central Bank said," noting that "the Finance Committee decided to host the director of the Real Estate Bank to find out how to activate this initiative."
And a member of the Finance Committee said, "The capital, Baghdad, needs more than one million housing units," pointing out that "reducing the housing ratio will be discussed next week in the presence of the Real Estate Bank."
On the other hand, a member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Mustafa Sanad, revealed the pros and cons of the Central Bank’s initiative regarding housing loans, while indicating that there is hosting for the director of the Real Estate Bank and the Housing Fund in the coming days. Sanad said: "The initiative of the Central Population Bank is in the process of exhausting its last amounts, and the bank issued a directive to recover 50 percent of the sums that were deducted from citizens to the Central Bank Fund and 50 percent to the Real Estate Bank and the Housing Fund for the purpose of re-granting them at a lower rate."
He pointed out that "the 50 percent rate will equate to large amounts of 20-30 billion dinars per month, and this percentage does not cover the citizens, and therefore the Central Bank launched an initiative based on pressure from the Finance Committee."
Sanad pointed out, "Following several problems with the initiative, the Finance Committee formed a committee consisting of 3 deputies under the committee's recommendations to shorten the parliament's view and meet the people's requests."
He pointed out, "The Central Bank believes that there is no importance to creating housing initiatives, maintaining the exchange rate, and preserving inflation, but the committee intends to play a major role in achieving solutions to this problem."
Sanad concluded by saying, "There is hosting for the director of the Real Estate Bank and the Housing Fund in the coming days, but the main problem is within the Central Bank and not in these banks."
Yesterday, Sunday, the Finance Committee, headed by Atwan Al-Atwani, and the presence of a number of its members, hosted the Governor of the Central Bank, Ali Al-Alaq, to discuss the Central Bank’s initiative to grant citizens loans to solve the housing crisis.
At the outset of the meeting, the Chairman of the Committee welcomed the Governor of the Central Bank, praising the role it plays in the bank in financing loans related to solving the housing crisis in the country, with the aim of facilitating the investment sector, economic movement and employment, adding that the suspension of the initiative affects the economic aspect and job opportunities, with the increasing need for units. housing, which requires a feasibility study to reach an appropriate formula that meets the citizen's need.
For his part, Ali Al-Alaq stressed the importance of communication between the Finance Committee and the Central Bank at all levels of concern to citizens, explaining the reasons that led to the suspension of the initiative that led to the contraction of the economic situation, adding that sums of money were allocated to the Real Estate Bank and the Housing Fund with the aim of achieving economic activity and launching the initiative, while He indicated that the bank deals with the file with an in-depth study in order to control the monetary mass in accordance with the financial policy, stressing the need to increase the capital and support the central bank to continue the initiatives.
The interventions of the committee members focused on the procedures of the Central Bank and the possibility of increasing the amounts granted, with the expansion of initiatives, as well as the new instructions issued regarding interest and the payment period, and stressing the intensification of meetings in order to study the mechanisms used and issue appropriate instructions to banks in implementing the initiative.
On the other hand, the issue of the exchange rate of the dinar against the dollar and the reasons for the rise in prices were discussed, as well as procedures regarding the tax on products imported through the ports.
