    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Monday (August 28, 2023), the Parliamentary Legal Committee described the legal reality in Iraq as "good," noting that it is separate from the political reality.
Committee member Raed Hamdan told "Baghdad Today" that "the legal reality in Iraq is good because there are independent judicial institutions working to implement laws in a professional manner, away from any political interference and pressure, and because there are laws in force that punish and hold accountable those who violate those laws."
And Hamdan stated, "The political situation is completely different from the legal situation, which proceeds according to the constitution and the law. The political situation is governed by interests and agreements, and any disagreements between the influential forces, we see that there is a defect in this situation."
There are active calls from time to time by many voices and associations to amend and legislate a set of laws, including the draft law on combating domestic violence, which the Iraqi parliament failed to adopt more than once.
