A member of the Parliamentary Services Committee, Representative Hussein Habib, confirmed, on Saturday, that a comprehensive assessment of the water file in Iraq had been conducted.

In an interview with Al-Maalouma, Habib said, "The water file receives priority in follow-up and attention, especially with the severe drought crisis that struck large parts of the country during 2023, and climate variables contributed to doubling public concern."
He added, "His committee held extensive meetings with the executive authorities in the governorates and ministries concerned with the water file in order to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the situation to achieve 4 important goals, the most prominent of which is standing on the size of the challenges, what are the most affected areas, what are the proposed solutions, and how to coordinate between Baghdad and the governorates regarding direct support." .
He pointed out that "providing safe drinking water is an absolute priority, and we support efforts to provide raw water for the pumping stations, pointing out that" there are important projects that will be discussed with the government within the framework of efforts to secure water for the provinces and overcome the drought crisis.
The decline in the water supplies of the main rivers has created a drought crisis in large areas of the country in the past months.
