Today, Saturday, the head of the Parliamentary Health Committee, Majid Shankali, criticized neglect and reluctance to the mental health file in Iraq, while stressing the effort to pass a law regulating work in this field, far from what is rumored about the law’s relationship with homosexuality.
Shankali said, “The mental health law, which will read its first reading today, aims to organize work in the field of mental health, provide the best and most optimal health care for mentally ill patients, and encourage doctors and health personnel to work in mental health, which suffers from neglect and reluctance of medical and health personnel to work in it.”
He added, "The law has nothing to do with homosexuality and homosexuality, from afar or close, as some claim, and through it they are trying to cover up the abject failure in managing much more important files. The clause that was circulated related to protecting the rights of the mentally ill according to WHO standards will be amended according to what suits our standards, culture, and laws."
