Shafaq News/ The European Union expressed, on Wednesday, its regret over the aerial bombardment that targeted the “Arabat” agricultural airport, southeast of Sulaymaniyah Governorate in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The European Union said in a statement published on the “X-Twitter” website today, that “the European Union regrets the loss of life resulting from the attack on Arbat Airport.”
The statement added, "Supporting Iraq's territorial integrity and sovereignty has been and will remain at the forefront of the European Union's foreign policy concerns."
The day before yesterday, Monday, the Arbat agricultural airport, southeast of Sulaymaniyah Governorate, was subjected to an aerial bombardment by an unknown drone, resulting in the death of 6 victims and the injury of three others, members of the Counter-Terrorism Service of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.
Yesterday morning, Tuesday, Major General Yahya Rasoul, spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani, condemned the bombing, and said in a statement that the plane that bombed the Arbat Agricultural Airport in Sulaymaniyah entered from Turkey.
He added, "This aggression constitutes a violation of Iraq's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. It represents a disturbance and threat to peace and security in the region and the world, a violation of the provisions of international law, and a violation of the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter."
Major General Rasoul stressed that "these repeated attacks are not consistent with the principle of good-neighborly relations between countries, and threaten to undermine Iraq's efforts to build good and balanced political, economic and security relations with its neighbors," pointing out that "Iraq reserves the right to put an end to these violations."
In turn, the head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Bafel Jalal Talabani, condemned the bombing, and said in a statement, “This criminal operation is a blatant violation of the borders of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq and comes within the conspiracies aimed at sabotaging the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region and the Sulaymaniyah region in particular.”
He stressed, "In the face of the recurrence of these violations, it is the duty of the political parties in the region to confront security risks and challenges together and protect Kurdistan from enemies and ill-wishers."
Talabani continued, "Our condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the families and families of the heroic anti-terrorism martyrs, who are the martyrs of Kurdistan security, and I hope for a speedy recovery for the injured. We also demand an immediate cessation of these attacks and call on the Iraqi government to assume its constitutional and national responsibilities in protecting the land and skies of Iraq, including Kurdistan, and not to allow these violations to occur." From now on."
The head of the National Union Party also called on “friends, countries of the world, and all free people to take a serious stance and stand in solidarity with us to stop these terrorist attacks. We, the Kurds, have been at the forefront of confronting terrorism over the past years and have made great sacrifices for that, and we cannot be targeted by such terrorist operations.”
Yesterday, Tuesday, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, directed the relevant authorities to conduct a “careful” investigation into the air strike that targeted the “Arabat” airport in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, which resulted in casualties among the counter-terrorism forces in the region.
Masrour Barzani said in a message that he was “saddened by the accident that occurred at Arbat Airport,” adding: The relevant authorities must conduct a thorough investigation into the causes and nature of this accident and reveal the facts as quickly as possible.
He added, "We condemn any violation of the sovereignty of Kurdistan and Iraq and all illegal actions that violate the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region."
The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) condemned the bombing that targeted an airport in Sulaymaniyah yesterday, stressing that attacks that violate Iraqi sovereignty must stop.
The United States Ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski, condemned the attack on Arbat Airport in Sulaymaniyah Governorate.
She said in a tweet on the “X - Twitter” website previously, “We reaffirm our support for respecting Iraq’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and that both are necessary for Iraq’s stability and security. We offer our condolences to those who lost their loved ones.”
