Two experts in economic affairs reported that tourist cities represent the most important requirements for the next stage, to create a qualitative tourism sector that supports the general federal budget in a sustainable manner, by taking advantage of the capabilities that are available in the country and its possession of all types of tourism that are of interest to more than two billion people around the world.
Economist Bassem Antoine pointed out the presence of a number of economic challenges that require a continuous effort to contain them, and create a tourism sector that achieves sustainable financial revenues by benefiting from the presence of all types of tourism in the country, pointing to the necessity of creating infrastructure for the tourism sector in the country that has more than 200 tourist sites. Antoine said in an interview with “Al-Sabah” that economic and tourism experts put forward many recommendations that address the problems of this important sector, which concerns billions of people in the world, as elite experts with extensive experience in their specialties provided ways out of the problems that confuse the reality of tourism in Iraq. He stressed the interest in the tourism sector, which is a permanent economic resource, especially since Iraq has more than 250 tourist sites in the fields of archaeological, religious, recreational, and medical tourism. These sites can be invested and made an important resource for the annual budget, by raising the degree of interest in tourist facilities and rehabilitating them in a way that attracts The largest number of tourists.
He explained that Iraq is in dire need of specialized tourism staff who have the culture of dealing with the tourist environment that is required to be provided in light of the high level of service in the world, and here there must be a tourism institute specialized in tourism training and qualification in most of the governorates of Iraq, pointing out that the tourist sites are different. It is distributed among all governorates of Iraq.
He stated that this natural wealth needs attention to the tourist infrastructure, such as advanced hotels and modern restaurants, and this in any case will achieve an economic boom and requires such specializations.
He had pointed out that Iraq has ten lakes, and this is what any country in the world lacks, as the map of these lakes extends from north to south, and they can be invested in building tourist resorts with international standards, indicating that the statistics of tourists in Iraq confirm that the people of Iraq have strong inclinations towards... He pointed out that the entry of foreign investment companies into Iraq and the start of the tourism investment process requires the presence of security and political stability that these companies aspire to in order to bring their money into large projects implemented inside the country, stressing the implementation of some shy investment steps taken by hotel companies in building some hotels.
Economic affairs specialist Hassan Al-Saadoun stated that Iraq is able to make tourism revenues cover the largest percentage of the general federal budget, after giving this sector the required attention by the concerned authorities that are responsible for organizing the tourism reality.
He pointed out that the private tourism sector is capable of entering into bilateral partnerships with specialized international companies to bring the largest number of tourists to Iraq, pointing out that Iraq has tourist sites of interest to more than two billion people, and work must be done to invest in these components and make them a permanent revenue for the country.
He stressed the need for us, as a first stage, to have quality tourist cities in the most important areas and then expand gradually to create a tourism sector.
