    Today, Monday (September 25, 2023), the Kurdistan Democratic Party described the Federal Court’s decision to dissolve the provincial councils in the region as “respectable.”
    Party member Mahdi Abdel Karim said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the Federal Court’s decision is respectable because it was issued by the judicial authority, and we cannot say anything else.”
    He added, "The region's governorate councils have not held their elections for years, and therefore there will be an organization and determination of the date for holding the elections and resuming their work again, after accepting the decision of the Federal Court that was issued yesterday, Sunday."
    Yesterday, Sunday (September 24, 2023), the Federal Supreme Court issued a ruling to terminate the work of the governorate councils of the Iraqi Kurdistan region due to the end of their electoral cycle, as the court ruled that Article (2) of Law No. (2) of 2019, the First Amendment Law of the Law of the Governorates of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, No. (3) of 2009.”
    According to a statement by the court, “This came in violation of the provisions of Articles (2/First/B and C) and (6) of the Constitution of the Republic of Iraq for the year 2005 in accordance with the ruling decision issued by No. (124/Federal/2023) on 24 "/9/2023".
    On the other hand, representatives and politicians point out that the court obligated members of the region’s governorate councils to recover the salaries they had received for five years.
