Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: Today, Monday (September 25, 2023), the Kurdistan Democratic Party described the Federal Court’s decision to dissolve the provincial councils in the region as “respectable.”
Party member Mahdi Abdel Karim said in an interview followed by Al-Masala, “The Federal Court’s decision is respectable because it was issued by the judicial authority, and we cannot say anything else.”
He added, “The region’s governorate councils have not held their elections for years, and therefore there will be organization and determination of the date for holding the elections and resuming their work again, after acknowledging the decision of the Federal Court that was issued yesterday, Sunday.”
Last Sunday, the Federal Supreme Court issued a ruling to terminate the work of the governorate councils of the Kurdistan region of Iraq due to the end of their electoral cycle. The court ruled that Article (2) of Law No. (2) of 2019, the First Amendment Law of the Law of the Governorates of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, No. (3) of the year unconstitutional. 2009″.
