{Local: Al-Furat News} The director of the water and environmental sanitation program at UNICEF in Iraq, Ali Al-Khatib, confirmed that a survey that included more than 9,000 schools showed that 50% of schools in Iraq do not have safe drinking water.
Al-Khatib pointed out that according to the five-year plan between UNICEF and the Iraqi government, “there are more than 300 projects for the current year, at the school and local community levels, to provide safe drinking water that may help ensure students continue their studies.”
He pointed out that UNICEF conducted an extensive study on the effects of climate change on children and youth, and came up with recommendations on "the importance of changing and organizing UNICEF's strategy in Iraq to suit climate changes and the scarcity of water resources in Iraq."
