Thaer Al-Jubouri, a member of the Agriculture and Water Committee, confirmed that Turkey is seeking to achieve political gains before resolving the water crisis, pointing out that Ankara has worked to link many files to the water file in an attempt to pressure Baghdad in order to achieve its goals.
Al-Jubouri told Al-Maalouma, “Water scarcity and the lack of water rations represent Iraq’s crisis at the present time, as the solution is linked to political measures, and one of them may be Erdogan’s upcoming visit to Iraq.”
He added, "There are many matters related to the water crisis with Turkey, especially with regard to the oil file and the pressure that Turkey is exerting on Iraq in order to achieve its goals in exchange for reopening the export port towards the port of Ceyhan."
He stated that "Turkey has political files with Iraq that it has worked to link to the water file, including the military presence, the export of oil, and the fines imposed on it by the Paris court. In the end, Turkey is seeking to achieve its gains from Iraq before resolving the water problem." Ended 25 n
