While the results of the investigation into the horrific fire that destroyed a wedding hall in the town of Al-Hamdaniya in Nineveh Governorate are expected to be officially announced today, Saturday, after the completion of the work of the committee in charge of the investigation, according to what Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari confirmed yesterday, anger still surrounds the hearts of the families of the victims.

Al Arabiya seeks relief from the families of the victims
. Yesterday, a large crowd of the families of the victims expelled the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad al-Halbousi, from a funeral council held in the town.
“Why are you sitting here?”
One of the bereaved people responded to the tragedy that claimed more than 100 lives, saying in a tone of anger and oppression: “You are responsible, why are you sitting here? Four of me are gone. Who will bring them?”
In turn, the Bishop of the Syriac Church in Kirkuk, Nineveh, and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Nicodemus Daoud Sharaf, expressed his anger at compensating the families of the victims with money, calling on the three presidencies to resign.
He said emotionally in a local television interview: “The officials should be ashamed of themselves for compensating people with money.”
“Are you not ashamed,”
he added, asking, “Aren’t you ashamed to compensate people with money?”
He added: “No one can compensate for this psychological pain. The whole of Iraq is in shock from north to south.”
In addition, he stressed that every official who has a shred of dignity must resign and admit that he is not fit for his position, because he failed to protect people’s lives.

In addition, he stressed that every official who has a shred of dignity must resign and admit that he is not fit for his position, because he failed to protect people’s lives.
This came while the number of victims who fell after a fire caught fire in a wedding hall in Al-Hamdaniya on Tuesday night is still infinite.
Meanwhile, Kazem Buhan, who is supervising the investigation into that tragedy, announced that “Al-Haytham Hall, which witnessed the tragic accident, was built in 2013, but by encroaching on agricultural land.”
Corruption and favoritism
. A massive fire broke out in Al-Haytham Wedding Hall and has so far claimed the lives of more than 100 people, in addition to injuring 150 others, in a disaster that prompted Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani to declare three days of general mourning throughout Iraq.
While the people of the town of Al-Hamdaniya blamed the laxity in implementing safety procedures, the rampant corruption among officials for years, and nepotism!
Safety instructions are often not adhered to in Iraq, especially in the construction and transportation sectors.
The infrastructure in this country is also dilapidated as a result of decades of conflict, which repeatedly leads to the outbreak of fires and other deadly disasters.
In April 2021, more than 80 people died as a result of a fire in a hospital for Covid patients in Baghdad caused by the explosion of oxygen cylinders.
Then, a few months later, in July of the same year, 64 people died as a result of a fire in a hospital in Nasiriyah, in the south of the country, that broke out in a ward for Covid patients.
It is noteworthy that the town of Al-Hamdaniya, also known by the names Qaraqosh and Baghdida, is an ancient Christian town whose residents speak a modern dialect of Aramaic, the language of Jesus Christ. Pope Francis visited it in March 2021 during his historic tour in Iraq.
It was severely destroyed by ISIS, which took control of vast areas of the country.
