    On Sunday, the Federal Supreme Court (the highest judicial authority in Iraq) ruled that it is not permissible to grant presidencies and special ranks a pension in contravention of the Unified Retirement Law.
    The court considered a lawsuit filed by a number of ministers in previous governments against the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, and the head of the National Retirement Authority.
    The court decided, according to documents seen by Al-Iqtisad News, that “the minister is considered one of those charged with public service and receives a salary from the state, so he is included in the provisions of the Unified Retirement Law No. 9 of 2014, as amended.”
    She added, "There is no legislative text that permits the granting of (the President of the Republic and his deputies, members of the Presidency Council, the Prime Minister and his deputies, ministers and those of their rank and those who receive their salaries, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and his deputies, members of the House of Representatives, members of the Governing Council, members of the Interim National Council, the president and members of the National Assembly, deputy ministers and those of their rank and those who receive salaries) The salary of the Undersecretary, advisors, those with special grades, general directors, those of their rank, and those who receive their salaries, the president and members of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission and the Human Rights Commission, the president and members of the Welfare Council of the Institution for Political Prisoners, the governor and his deputy, the mayor, the district director, the heads of the governorate councils and their deputies, the members of the governorate councils, and the heads of the district and district councils. Municipal councils and their members (districts and districts) receive a pension in contravention of the provisions of the Unified Retirement Law.”
