The Iraq International Festival kicked off in the celebration square inside the Green Zone in Baghdad, yesterday evening, Tuesday, with the participation of a large number of Arab and Iraqi artists, where several awards were presented for musical, dramatic and cinematic works voted on by the public and a jury headed by the head of the Iraqi Artists Syndicate. Jabbar Jodi.

Participants in the jury include the head of the Egyptian Artists Syndicate, Ashraf Zaki, director Enas El Deghaidy, producer Mohsen Jaber, artist Shatha Salem from Iraq, and musician Naseer Shamma, in addition to art critic and journalist Jamal Fayyad from Lebanon.

A large number of Arab and Iraqi stars participated in the festival, including Jamal Suleiman, Munther Al-Rayhana, Hala Sidqi, Bushra, and others.

The Iraqi artist Shatha Hassoun is the organizer and supervisor of the festival, and the festival shield was designed by the Iraqi sculptor Ahmed Al-Bahrani.

The festival opened the door to voting for the public to choose and nominate the best and most beautiful works of art, drama and cinema, for Arab and Iraqi stars and artists within the categories in which they will compete for the year 2023. The aim of the festival was to

honor Arab and Iraqi artists and celebrate them in a coronation ceremony befitting their stardom on an exceptional night that the sponsors described as being “ From One Thousand and One Nights” reflects the importance and magnitude of this festival.

The festival was held in its first edition in the Grand Celebration Square in the Green Zone in central Baghdad, and it contained many surprises for the honored stars.

The festival received conflicting opinions, between criticism and acceptance, some of whom described it as “inappropriate,” as not many days had passed since the Hamdaniyah tragedy, according to what they said, while others praised the festival’s success.

Member of Parliament Sarwa Abdel Wahed wrote in a blog post, “I congratulate the creative Shatha Hassoun on the success of the Iraq International Festival, as she was able to bring together a large number of stakeholders from Iraqi and Arab artists, and this is a good step for the world to see the other side of Iraq, the face that loves life and art.”

She added, "Choosing a national day for Iraq was successful."
