Baghdad: Jinan Al-Asadi
revealed the arrest of more than 12,000 people accused of promoting, using, and trafficking during the past nine months, while coordinating with neighboring countries to limit the smuggling of narcotic substances into the country.
The official spokesman for the Directorate of the Ministry of Interior, Colonel Bilal Sobhi, told Al-Sabah: There are specific efforts being made by the Ministry to confront the scourge of drugs, targeting major dealers, and dismantling large networks smuggling narcotic substances, which are now devastating society and posing a serious danger, indicating that these efforts have resulted in More than 12,000 users, promoters, and dealers were arrested during the past nine months, in accordance with the provisions of Article 50 of the Drug Law of 2017, in addition to the seizure of 3,500 tons of various narcotic substances.
He stressed that the department is coordinating with neighboring countries to limit the smuggling of narcotic substances into the country, explaining at the same time that the hotline No. 178 works around the clock and free of charge to receive reports of any case of abuse or trade, stressing that the citizen has a major role in this aspect. Especially since drugs are a scourge that threatens all members of society, including youth and women, and there must be cooperation from all parties to reduce them.
