    Economy News _ Baghdad
Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab Abdullah, warned of the limited flow of water from upstream countries during the current year, while indicating that the level of evaporation had reached the threshold of eight billion cubic meters annually.

Abdullah said in an interview with Al-Sabah, followed by Al-Iqtisad News, that the amount of water flowing from upstream countries for the current year is limited due to climate changes, and Iraq is the region most exposed to these changes because it recorded the highest temperatures as a result of many factors, including increased evaporation in the surfaces. Water, the destruction of natural vegetation, and the lack of rainfall during the past four years, which led to drought.
He added that the level of evaporation in water bodies reached five billion cubic meters during the summer season, in addition to the evaporation occurring in reservoirs and marshes, which reaches three billion cubic meters, making eight billion cubic meters of water during the year.
Abdullah pointed out that the Ministry has implemented many strategic projects within the government program, despite the lack of financial allocations, including increasing land reclamation areas and promoting sustainable practices for the purpose of securing the food basket in all governorates, in addition to implementing lagging projects and water harvesting projects through the General Authority. For dams and reservoirs for the purpose of enhancing groundwater in the governorates of the Kurdistan region, Anbar, Nineveh, Maysan, Holy Karbala, Najaf al-Ashraf, Wasit, and Diyala.
He added that there are other projects that included lining the concrete lining of the Afak River in Diwaniyah Governorate at a cost of 650 million dinars, to ensure the flow of water, reduce waste and limit abuses, in addition to a project to line the tourist area near King Ghazi’s Palace in Al-Daghara District, which will be completed soon, in addition to a project. Covering the concrete quilt on both sides of the Al-Kahla and Al-Musharrah systems in Al-Amarah, as well as clearing the Diyala River to ensure that water reaches the liquefaction stations and agricultural lands.
