The Ministry of Migration and Displacement registered 10,000 displaced families from three governorates due to climate change. The ministry’s spokesman, Ali Abbas Jahangir, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “The ministry monitored the displacement of entire families from three governorates, namely (Dhi Qar, Maysan, and Basra) due to them being affected by drought and climate change,” noting that “the ministry formed committees.” Within those governorates, in cooperation with sectoral ministries such as agriculture and water resources, to diagnose families that have been displaced and those affected by displacement.” Jahangir added, "These families are classified into two categories. The first is families in areas threatened by displacement, while the second category is those who have been displaced to other areas." The spokesman revealed that "the Ministry recorded the displacement of approximately 10,000 families, while 1,400 families were entered into the Ministry's database in order to target them with relief materials."
