The executive body of the Higher Commission for the Eradication of Illiteracy has prepared a new law specifically for the eradication of illiteracy that will ensure the continuation of the study of the aforementioned segment until the university level, stressing that it will be submitted soon for adoption, as an alternative to the law currently in force since the year 2012. The House of Representatives enacted the Literacy Eradication Law No. 23 of the
year 2011, whereby a higher body for the eradication of illiteracy was formed, with the creation of an executive body within the Ministry of Education to supervise the application of the law through literacy schools that receive age groups of those aged 15 years and over.
Director of the Relations and Media Department and official spokesman for the agency affiliated with the Ministry of Education, Riyad Fawzi Al-Muaini, said in a statement to Al-Sabah: The preparation of the new law came about because its currently approved counterpart has many loopholes and is a shackled law that does not allow illiterate people to develop themselves in the way each of them needs.
He added that the new law, which was prepared in coordination with the State Shura Council, will hopefully be presented to the Council of Ministers during the coming period in order to submit it to the House of Representatives for voting or approval, indicating that the new law will meet the ambition of the illiterate student by providing the best means for the success of his education in modern ways
.
In the same context, Al-Muaini revealed that the law includes allocating special curricula and educational methods for illiterate students through which the students will be followed up until they reach the university level of education. It will also allocate special middle and preparatory schools with their arrangement, curricula, and educational body, in addition to following modern and special methods for teaching them in a manner that is appropriate for their needs.
