Shafaq News / The US State Department revealed, on Sunday evening, the details of Secretary Anthony Blinken’s discussions with Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani, during a lightning visit he made to the capital, Baghdad.
The ministry's official spokesman, Matthew Miller, said in a statement translated by Shafaq News Agency, "Blinken discussed with Al-Sudani in Baghdad, the conflict between Israel and Hamas, and the need to prevent the spread of the conflict, including in Iraq."
According to Miller, the American minister discussed the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the United States’ continued commitment to coordination with Iraq and its other partners in the region to ensure continuous and safe access to food, water, medical care, and other assistance required to meet humanitarian needs.
The US Secretary also discussed, with the Iraqi Prime Minister, the need to ensure that Palestinians are not forcibly displaced outside Gaza.
Blinken urged the Sudanese to hold accountable those responsible for the ongoing attacks on American employees in Iraq and to fulfill Iraq’s obligations to protect all facilities that host American employees at the invitation of the Iraqi government, stressing that “the United States will defend its interests and individuals.”
