Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: The Kurdistan Democratic Party defined its position on passing the oil and gas law, and while it considered this law important, it confirmed the presence of political parties preventing its passage.
The party's leader, Wafa Muhammad, said that the Democratic Party has always supported passing the oil and gas law, as it is one of the demands emphasized by the party's leader, Masoud Barzani, when he entered the state administration coalition, and during the establishment of the current government.
He added that the oil and gas law is important because it will determine the proportion of the Kurdistan region and the level of oil delivered to the federal government, pointing out that Kurdistan in any case will deliver its oil to Baghdad, but the existence of a law that regulates this file and is approved by the Iraqi parliament will naturally be in the interest of the region.
He explained that there are political forces present within Parliament, which are standing and obstructing the passage of this law, especially at the present time.
Earlier, a member of the House of Representatives, Sherif Soliman, confirmed that Parliament will need a lot of time and discussions to mature the oil and gas law in a way that serves all governorates and is consistent with the constitution.
The Parliamentary Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee confirmed the lack of consensus between Baghdad and Erbil regarding some paragraphs of the oil and gas law, pointing to the formation of committees in order to overcome obstacles and bring viewpoints closer to resolving the law.
The oil and gas law is one of the issues that has sparked controversy between Erbil and Baghdad for many years, but it was agreed to approve this draft law between the two parties within the framework of a political agreement that led to the formation of the current government.
