The Presidents of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, and the Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, yesterday evening, Tuesday, discussed the latest developments at the national and international levels, and the progress of preparations for the governorate council elections scheduled for next December, as there was mutual emphasis on the importance of holding them and providing the requirements for their success. So that its results are the true expression of the will of the Iraqi people.
The meeting witnessed, according to a statement by the Prime Minister’s Information Office, the importance of joining efforts to support the government in implementing its government program to establish security and stability, continuing to provide services and supporting reform in the field of combating corruption.
The meeting also reviewed the President of the Republic’s participation in the joint Arab-Islamic summit held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in solidarity with Palestine, and what was included in his speech regarding Iraq’s position calling for serious action to stop the aggression against Gaza and the Palestinian people, as well as the outcomes of the meetings that the President of the Republic conducted with leaders. And the leaders of the countries participating in the summit and its positive repercussions on improving Iraq’s regional and international relations. Meanwhile, the President of the Republic offered congratulations on the occasion of the 239th anniversary of the founding of Sulaymaniyah Governorate.
The President of the Republic said, in a statement: “The city of Sulaymaniyah is celebrating these days the 239th anniversary of its founding, which was carried out by the Babanis, as it continues to this day its activity to be a pioneer in the development process like the major cities in Iraq, and even the region, to become an example of beauty and radiance in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.” .
He added, "When the city was founded in 1784 by Ibrahim Pasha Baban, he gave it the name Sulaymaniyah after his father, Suleiman Pasha, and made it the capital of the Emirate of Baban. At the same time, it became a cultural, scientific, and civilizational center. While Sulaymaniyah became the cultural capital of the Kurdistan region, it is proud of its history as a symbol." For struggle, struggle, and service to the nation,” noting that “this city has produced many political, activist, and cultural figures, including poets and writers who are loyal to the land and nation and who have served humanity throughout their lives.”
He stated that "Sulaymaniyah did not give up in the struggle against injustice and oppression of fascist regimes such as the Baath Party, and was always struggling for free living and freedom from oppression and persecution. Its people also always struggled to achieve a better life and secure a decent living for future generations," pointing out that "Sulaymaniyah and with Its belief in the slogan of a federal democratic Iraq and the rights of the Kurdish people in Iraq, but it supported the struggle of the Kurdish people in Kurdistan in general.”
He continued, "Kurdish leaders, such as Sheikh Mahmoud Al-Hafid, have emerged since the founding of the Iraqi state, and have demanded Kurdish rights and the strengthening of friendship and brotherhood with all Iraqi components," explaining that, "For this reason, the people of Sulaymaniyah have often struggled with their Arab brothers for a democratic Iraq and to guarantee The rights of the Kurdish people.”
In addition, the Prime Minister directed the directors of government banks to submit a plan within one month in order to develop the work of the banks.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office stated, “Al-Sudani chaired a meeting that included the Minister of Finance, the Governor of the Central Bank and the directors of government banks,” indicating that “the meeting during which the work mechanisms and procedures achieved in the administrative and banking reform, which the government has begun to implement, was followed up, and it constituted one of the work priorities.” It is part of the comprehensive economic reform in the country.
The Prime Minister directed “all government banks to prepare a plan to be submitted within one month, to develop the work of banks that includes the optimal use of financial, human and technical resources, moving from paper work to automated work, electronic dealing with all banking activities, expanding electronic payment services, and developing a comprehensive vision for banks in granting facilities.” credit and loans, and developing work mechanisms, including control and oversight tools.”
He stressed that “bank managers will be subject to performance evaluation in light of their implementation of the plan and the amount of achievement,” stressing that “the real reform that the government was keen to achieve is based on banking reform, and it is determined to achieve “Make bold decisions to implement this reform in a way that contributes to improving the investment environment and developing the work of the public and private sectors.”
The meeting witnessed a discussion of the implementation of the comprehensive banking system, through the use of advanced electronic programs and modern technology in all banking transactions, and a discussion of the development plan presented by the international company (Ernst & Young) regarding the restructuring of Rafidain Bank, to ensure the development of its business and the provision of a package of integrated banking services to citizens. The Prime Minister directed "banking departments to seek international expertise by contracting with consultants specialized in banking and financial work."
