    The Local Union of Agricultural Associations confirmed, on Wednesday, that 1,000 farms have been monitored for the transition to modern irrigation in Diyala during the year 2023.
     The head of the union in Diyala, Raad Mughamis, said in an interview with “Al-Ma’louma” that “the drought crisis has created changing phases in dealing with the crop watering issue and immediate response to the challenges by adopting modern irrigation systems that have proven effective in reducing the percentage of water use to within 60%.” And sometimes up to 70%.”
    He added, "More than 1,000 farms in Diyala of different areas have actually moved to the modern irrigation method through drip and sprinkler systems in a way that gives flexibility in dealing with the drought crisis throughout the year using the least amount of water."
    He pointed out that "the transition took place through the farmers' own efforts due to their need to continue farming," stressing that "government support is necessary to create a comprehensive transition that achieves the goals of reducing water consumption to high levels."
