    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Thursday (December 7, 2023), political affairs specialist Falah Al-Mishaal pointed out the impact of “tribal and party favoritism” with the rise of “incompetent” figures during local or parliamentary elections.
Al-Mishaal confirmed to “Baghdad Today” that “tribal and partisan favoritism contributes to the rise of incompetent figures in local or parliamentary elections.”
He explained that "there are many incompetent figures who rose in parliamentary as well as local elections during previous years, due to tribal and party favoritism," noting that "most of those who are elected are because of this favoritism."
He added, "Most of the participants in the elections are members of the party's audience, and this audience does not elect the candidate according to his program, testimony, or experience, but rather elects him because he is recommended by the leader of this party or by some tribal sheikhs."
Al-Mishaal continued, "This is why we find many incompetent figures occupying important legislative and oversight positions and committees, without having any experience."
Observers believe that “the tribal character has become dominant in the electoral scene in Iraq, as tribal candidates constitute a large percentage of those competing for provincial council seats in the elections scheduled to be held on December 18,” indicating that “every tribe is looking forward to choosing its candidates regardless of the programs.” "electoral."
On (December 5, 2023), the head of the Al-Fatah Alliance, Hadi Al-Amiri, confirmed that boycotting the elections does not solve the problems, but rather one must participate and choose “the fair and competent one.”
A statement from the coalition information office, received by “Baghdad Today,” said, “Al-Amiri stressed during a mass election rally in the Nineveh Plain that the provincial council elections are of very great importance and we recommend serious participation in them,” indicating that “boycotting the elections does not solve the problems, but rather participation must be done.” Choose fair and efficient people.”
Meanwhile, the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, said on Tuesday (December 5, 2023), that “the elections contribute to the formation of a capable state based on the constitution, the law, and respect for the will of the people.”
Al-Maliki stated in a statement received by “Baghdad Today”: “Through the elections, we reassure everyone and say there is no fear for the political process, but rather we will preserve and develop it with the presence of all loyal people, led by the Iraqi tribes.”
He pointed out, "The tribes of Iraq played a major role in stabilizing the country and facing challenges, and they played the major role that Iraq's history has witnessed since the 1920 Revolution."
He continued, "Through the tribal support councils, the tribes have become a support and support system for the judiciary," noting that "our tribes today have a high degree of awareness and we believe in the importance of their role in building the state."
