    On Thursday, the Ministry of Commerce announced a government agreement, sponsored by Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, to open private sales outlets, allowing those covered by social welfare to shop at cost and instalments.
    The spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, Muthanna Jabbar, said in a statement reported by the official news agency, and seen by Al-Iqtisad News, that “all governorates of Iraq are included in the food basket project, and one of the first governorates in which the transition to the electronic ration card was implemented was Dohuk Governorate, with a population of 280.” One thousand families, while the largest number of those included in the basket is in the capital, Baghdad, at 1 million and 350 thousand families on the Rusafa side, and 864 thousand families in Al-Karkh.
    Jabbar added, “A meeting was held under the direction of the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, between the ministry and the Undersecretary of the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Chairman of the Social Welfare Authority, Ahmed Al-Moussawi, during which an agreement occurred under the auspices of the Prime Minister, stipulating that the (9) million covered With social welfare, they have special sales outlets that give them food and durable goods at cost without profit, according to special cards.”
    He continued, "The agreement included another offer stipulating the shopping for food and durable goods needed by families covered by social care in (installments) with a value of up to 100 thousand dinars or more," explaining, "Those included shop for 100 thousand dinars and pay 10 thousand dinars." One dinar only, and then the remaining amount is paid in installments through the care salary or other resources.”
    He stressed that “the initial agreement was made, and the included data and numbers were taken, and priority will be for people of determination, disabilities, and orphans,” indicating that “people of determination and disabilities registered with social welfare and who have IDs number 228 thousand families, orphans are more than 10 thousand individuals, and families with no income are up to 228 thousand families.” 1 million".
    He pointed out, "The process will include approximately 3 million individuals who have identities and numbers, and an agreement will be made with a company to create a special system for marketing outlets that guarantees sales to them at cost and installments, as soon as the social welfare identity that includes their code appears."
    He pointed out that "30 outlets have been identified to be opened during the next year, 2024, and the Ministry of Labor has promised to provide an additional initial outlet that will be within the ministry and affiliated with the Ministry of Commerce, in which goods, foodstuffs, and durable goods will be sold at cost to holders of social welfare IDs."
