    Baghdad - Mawazine News
Today, Sunday, the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faiq Zaidan, called for a reconsideration of laws and legislation related to human rights, while noting that human rights are inherent to all human beings and indivisible.
Judge Zaidan said, during the second conference of the National Human Rights Plan: “Human rights are passing through a pivotal stage, and on this day in 1948, the most prominent document in human rights was issued, which included international recognition that basic rights and basic freedoms are inherent to all human beings and are inalienable.” “Where every human being is born free in dignity and borders, I have committed the international community to protect them.”
He added, "The strength of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights lies in the ideas it contains that are capable of changing our countries and peoples for the better, and that inspire and urge us to continue working, and for all citizens to enjoy freedom and equality."
He explained, "Belief in the doctrine of right and justice and its adoption of method and behavior, and the independent judiciary, are the surest guarantees of human rights contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in addition to the principles included in the Iraqi Constitution in 2005 for the exercise and protection of rights and freedoms."
Zidane called for "a reconsideration of the legislation and laws in force that no longer meet the needs of citizens," noting that "the new democratic stage also requires the necessity of improving the legal culture, especially the culture of human rights, and adopting it in the national plan for human rights for the coming years."
He concluded by saying: "We are all confident that Iraq, in which civilizations are rooted and on whose land universal human rights laws were born, will be a pioneer of thought, legal culture, and human rights."
The second conference of the National Human Rights Plan was launched today, Sunday, in the presence and patronage of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani.
